About Dr. Macaulay

William Macaulay, M.D. is The Anne Youle Stein Professor for Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Macaulay joined Columbia Orthopaedics in 1999 and has been Director of the Center for Hip and Knee Replacement (CHKR) and Chief of Adult Reconstruction (Hip and Knee) at Columbia since 2001.  Dr. Macaulay was recently voted into the US Hip Society (an elite group of US hip surgeons).

Dr. Macaulay graduated from Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1992 and from the University of Pittsburgh’s orthopaedic surgery residency program in 1997. He is fellowship trained in Hip and Knee replacement, primary and revision surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

In addition to his clinical activities in a thriving regional, national and international practice, Dr. Macaulay is very active in medical student and resident teaching. He is currently conducting a variety of clinical and basic science research projects. The author of scores of scientific articles and book chapters, Dr. Macaulay is familiar with the latest minimally invasive, bone preserving and recuperation enhancing trends in hip and knee replacement surgery.
